Meet your hosts

Combined, the hosts of AI FYI have over 25 years of experience shipping AI products and AI-powered software products. Together they have supported hundreds of AI and machine learning teams and encountered countless applications of AI. They’ve influenced the AI on at least 10 apps on your phone. See an example of their work in patent US11392757B2.

Andy, Joe and Kiran draw from their unique roles in the industry but also on their own lives and curiosities as tech enthusiasts. They have a shared belief that the current discourse about AI is not giving people accurate or useful information and they want to fix it.

Andy Butkovic

Andy is a tech enthusiast calling San Francisco home. She's all about the amazing potential of technology to make a positive impact on people's lives. But she's not afraid to call out how tech goes rogue and needs better management.

Andy's journey in the tech world began at Figure Eight, where she was creating AI-assisted data labeling tools that earned a patent.  At Primer AI her mission was democratizing access to Primer's remarkable NLP models through user-friendly, no-code, and low-code deep learning model development. Now she's at Verta AI, a startup on a mission to help builders of all kinds tap into the magic of generative AI in a smart and responsible way.

When she's not in work mode, you'll find Andy cherishes her bond with her massive German Shepherd companion, Honey. Also getting creative with paint, hunting for mushrooms and binge-watching her favorite TV shows. She recommends some light reading with  "The 13 and a Half Lives of Captain Bluebear" and her podcast inspirations draw from the insightful work of Michael Hobbes.

Joe Cloughley

Joe is a former front end engineer turned product designer living in San Francisco.

He has a strong interest in the democratization of information and, as it pertains to product, how we funnel user feedback into what we decide to build and how it’s designed. As it pertains to machine learning, models are often democratized information as well. Neat!

Joe previously worked at Figure Eight (acquired by Appen), an ML startup focused on training data generation. Following that, he spent time at Meta working on internal tools for developers and ML scientists. He now works at Weights & Biases, a startup focused on MLOps experiences. Before all this, he did front end development (his enjoyment of css/sass brought him to design) and spent some time in edu-tech and the nonprofit world.

He loves exploring his city, stand-up comedy, illustration and cooking japanese food. He is also a big reader. His two favorite design/tech related books are, The Best Interface is No Interface by Golden Krishna and Articulating Design Decisions by Tom Greever. Check them out!
